Chris grew up around a family of trades people and helped with home remodel projects from a very young age. High School summers were spent working construction jobs in Eastern Washington for his step-grandfather’s construction company. Chris called an army recruiter during the summer between his junior and senior year of high school. Two weeks after his 17th birthday Chris joined the delayed entry program of the US Army and left for basic training shortly after graduating. Chris was trained as a 35Y to repair component level electronics on missile systems and helicopters and was honor graduate of his class. After being honorably discharged at the end of his enlistment, Chris moved back home to Seattle and went to work as the foreman for his father’s painting and maintenance company.
2 years later he accepted a position from a client doing in-house renovation work in a 10-story retirement community. Here he honed his skills in complete studs-out remodels from demolition to punch list. During this time, he also accepted a part-time position as an apartment manager where he worked nights and weekends for about 5 years. Maintenance, turnover, cosmetic remodel, advertising, and rent collection were all his responsibilities. In 2008 Chris was approached by the owners of a well-known local commercial glass and glazing company. He was offered a project management position and went to work running projects for high-rise new construction and remodels.
After 4 successful years, Chris was asked to take over the company’s service department and implemented a special projects division that is still successful to this day. After 9 years Chris was recruited by the largest and arguably best contractor in the state of Washington. It was here that Chris managed his most challenging and biggest project yet, coordinating his company’s scope of work with all the other trades for a 45-story hotel with high-end custom finishes throughout. Near the end of this project Chris realized he wanted to be a bigger part something smaller. He wanted to return to his roots helping people turn the vision of their home or office into a reality. Chris founded Bicknell Builds in 2018 and has been busy helping people bring their visions to life ever since.
